Project Scope

Design & permit application.

MIXD was approached to create a design for a detached office unit. The unit needed to provide space for a workspace, meeting room, pantry and toilet.

The location: the backyard of the client living in Rotterdam, Prinsenland. An environment where everything subsides without costly piling.
On a limited area, a T-shaped rubbery sculptural volume was designed with a representative, luxurious appearance. The ‘arm’ of the T is not symmetrical, the long side protrudes more, toward the open corner.
Under the short “arm,” the volume is closed with horizontal wooden slats that deflect inward at the entrance.
The facade under the long arm is closable with corner sliding doors and wooden screens. In summer, the entire corner can be opened.
